Orbiting ETHDenver: Perspectives From a Filecoin Orbit Ambassador

Filecoin Orbit is a global community that organizes events, hackathons, and other initiatives to increase awareness and adoption of Filecoin. The program brings communities together from around the globe to share ideas and collaborate. And due to the open nature of Orbit, individuals, startups, and large companies get a chance to better understand market needs and work together to build the future of the web. Against the backdrop of ETHDenver, Ambassadors from Filecoin Orbit North America came together and traveled to Denver to host an Ecosystem Showcase event, bringing together Orbit members from four continents!

Alex Mirran, cofounder of Leto and Filecoin Orbit Ambassador who led the Denver event, spent some time thinking about what this event meant for the community and the future of the Orbit program. Read on to hear from Alex!

An increasing number of developers around the world are looking for straight-forward tools that leverage open web systems. With this in mind, community members from Filecoin Orbit North America hosted an ecosystem showcase at ETHDenver 2024. We welcomed over 150 attendees with 10 Filecoin ecosystem teams presenting on topics such as decentralized storage, DePin networks, and tooling for the network.

Nodle demoed their camera application Click which lets you take a photo or a video and prove its authenticity by making a record on the blockchain. And the Interplanetary Consensus team presented how they are building out planetary-scale blockchain capacity with subnets! Through engaging talks, demos, and networking sessions with leading companies such as Tableland, Banyan, Fleek, Lighthouse, stFIL, Glif, Leto and Huddle01, the event exemplified the community's dedication to building an open, resilient web for humanity.

Planning and hosting the Filecoin Orbit event in Denver was a great experience for our team. Support from Filecoin Foundation helped to make the night possible! The Orbit program gives our team at Leto a unique opportunity to connect with builders as well as new entrants to the open web.

Our North America team is based in Austin, Texas, and hosts a monthly meetup with developer workshops, demos, or speakers. Our goal is to host awesome speakers as well as organize events that bring individuals and companies together. The focus is often on developer tooling used to implement open web networks and tools into a typical software stack. Supported by the Filecoin Foundation, Leto, and Cloud Forest, we aim to bring builders and the community together to share ideas, collaborate, and have some fun! Join us in downtown Austin for the next event. The events hosted in Austin are also available on the Filecoin Orbit Austin Github.
