Early May Highlights

🐉 After months of planning and iteration, the Filecoin nv22 Dragon upgrade has launched on mainnet! The Dragon upgrade introduces a suite of improvements and changes aimed at enhancing the network's efficiency, reliability, and user experience. Check out FF’s new “Core Topics” series to hear Molly Macklinlay’s summary of some of the major advancements the NV22 upgrade brings to the Filecoin network.

📖 Messari’s Q1 2024 Filecoin Ecosystem Report highlights FF’s Filecoin Ecosystem Explorer. As of March 2024, over 160 projects are included in the Filecoin Ecosystem Explorer, a community-powered database of projects in the network.

📷 Contribute to Baseline and document our natural world using Filecoin. Guardian Project, a Filecoin Foundation for the Decentralized Web (FFDW) project partner developing secure apps and open-source software libraries, is spearheading Baseline, an environmental project to document and verify the world around us. Developer Advocacy

• Winners for the Data Economy Hackathon were announced on April 17. Participants submitted over 120 projects, including 67 for the Filecoin track and 20 for Interplanetary Consensus (IPC).
• FF Developer Advocate Jenks Guo gave a keynote at TeamZ Summit in Japan on AI Trust and Filecoin, and spoke at the Orbit Filecoin Ecosystem Showcase side event sharing the latest developments, growth, and transformative potential of Filecoin's decentralized storage network.

Network Operations

Governance

• The Nv22 Dragon upgrade introduced several key improvements fostering a more efficient, user-friendly, and scalable network. Learn more.
• Engage and contribute to the development of FIPs by participating in Filecoin Foundation's monthly community governance calls.

Fil Plus

• The first cohort of allocators is about to expend their initial 5 PiB DataCap allocation. As a result, the Filecoin Plus team is beginning its new auditing process to ensure allocators are maintaining their diligence plans before receiving the next 5 PiB tranche of DataCap.
• The sixth Filecoin Plus Governance call of 2024 took place on April 16 to discuss the Filecoin Plus program, including allocator responsibilities, weekly distribution schedules, a DataCap refresh, tooling updates, and more. To attend live meetings, add the Filecoin Plus Governance calendar.

Marketing & Comms

• The April 18 edition of the Solana Community Update highlighted the Triton One project to archive the entire Solana transaction history on Filecoin, making all of Solana's history accessible, content addressable, and available through a variety of means.
• Read Preserving Human Rights Data with the Filecoin Network: A Journey into the Decentralized Web with HRDAG, a guest post written by Patrick Ball, HRDAG’s Director of Research, exploring how data serves as the backbone of truth in our collective memory.

• Senior Fellow and DWeb Strategy Danny O’Brien delivered opening remarks at a webinar on community archiving and decentralized storage hosted by TechSoup, an FFDW project partner. Other projects partners OpenArchive and Starling Lab and FF dev grantee TRANSFER performed demos of their tools.
• Founding Officer Clara Tsao and Head of Events Meredith Pallante participated in roundtable discussions at the Project Liberty Summit at MIT –– a gathering focused on how to ethically design, develop, and govern the internet of tomorrow.
